How Does the AI Calculate How Attractive You Are?

When you upload a photo or use your camera, the AI maps 68 precise landmark points across your face and measures the geometric relationships between them. Those measurements are compared against averages drawn from published facial-attractiveness research. The result is a score from 1 to 10, built from six weighted components:

⚖️

Facial Symmetry

The AI compares 26 mirrored landmark pairs (eyes, brows, jaw, lips) against a calculated central axis. Left-right symmetry is one of the most consistent predictors of perceived attractiveness across cultures, as established by Grammer & Thornhill (1994).

📐

Facial Geometry

Five structural ratios are measured: face height-to-width, jaw-to-cheekbone width, brow width, lower-face proportion, and vertical thirds balance (forehead, mid-face, chin). Each is scored against empirically calibrated targets from landmark studies.

Feature Harmony

Measures how well individual features relate to the whole face: inter-eye distance, nose width, nose length, mouth width, and the mouth-to-eye-span ratio. A golden-ratio-inspired check on mouth/nose and lower/mid-face proportions contributes a further 8% adjustment to the final score.

🌿

Skin & Age Score

The AI isolates a landmark-guided skin region (cheeks, nose, forehead, excluding hair and background) and analyses colour uniformity and surface texture via pixel-level gradient variance. Detected age is also factored in, since skin condition is a well-documented attractiveness cue as shown by Fink et al. (2001).

💪

Sexual Dimorphism

When gender is detected, the AI scores five gender-typical ratios (jaw-to-cheek, eye size, brow height, lip fullness, lower-face proportion) against calibrated targets drawn from Perrett et al. (1998). This component is halved when gender cannot be reliably determined.

🎯

Pose & Photo Quality

Head tilt (roll), side angle (yaw), vertical pitch, mouth openness, and image sharpness are all checked. A front-facing, well-lit photo with a neutral expression gives the most accurate read of how attractive you are, because off-angle or blurry images genuinely reduce measurement precision.

How Attractive I Am? The Science Behind the Question

Almost everyone has asked themselves “How Attractive I Am?” at some point, and it’s a completely natural question. Attractiveness isn’t just about vanity; research in evolutionary psychology shows it influences social perception, confidence, and how others respond to us in everyday life. The challenge is that most people have a distorted view of their own appearance, either overestimating or underestimating how they look to others.

Our free AI attractiveness test gives you an objective, third-party perspective, the kind of honest answer you can’t get from friends or mirrors. Using computer vision and facial geometry analysis, the tool evaluates your face the same way a panel of independent raters would, but in a fraction of a second.

Am I More Attractive Than I Think? What Research Says

Studies consistently show that people are surprisingly poor judges of their own attractiveness. A well-known effect called the “better-than-average” illusion means most people rate themselves slightly above average, but the direction of the bias varies. Some people severely underestimate their attractiveness, especially those with low self-esteem or body dysmorphic tendencies.

An objective AI attractiveness test can serve as a useful reality check. If you’ve ever thought “I can’t tell how attractive I am” or wondered “am I more attractive than I think?”, our tool gives you an impartial answer based purely on facial geometry, not social bias.

How Attractive I Am to Men vs. Women? Does It Differ?

Yes, research shows that attractiveness preferences differ meaningfully between genders. Men tend to rate facial femininity, clear skin, and large eyes more highly, while women tend to favor strong jawlines, facial symmetry, and masculine structure. Our tool lets you select your target audience before analysis so the AI can weight these factors accordingly and give you a score that reflects how attractive you are to the group you care about.

How Attractive Am I? – Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you start your free attractiveness test.

Can AI really tell how attractive I am? +
Yes – our AI is trained on millions of facial images and peer-reviewed research in facial attractiveness science, including symmetry, golden ratio proportions, and feature analysis. While beauty is inherently subjective, there are measurable, objective traits that consistently correlate with perceived attractiveness across cultures. Our model achieves 98% consistency with human rater panels in controlled tests.
Is my photo stored or shared with anyone? +
Absolutely not. Your photo is processed entirely in real-time on our secure servers and immediately deleted the moment your analysis is complete. We never store, share, sell, or use your photo for any purpose other than generating your result. Privacy is our top priority – you can use this tool with complete confidence.
How accurate is the attractiveness score? +
Our model achieves 98% consistency with human rater panels in controlled studies. The score reflects objective facial structure analysis – symmetry, proportions, feature balance. Keep in mind that attractiveness also has subjective and cultural components, so think of your score as a science-backed baseline rather than an absolute judgment.
Can I get a score without uploading a photo? +
Yes! Our Quiz Mode lets you answer 6 questions about your facial features and structure – no photo required. It produces a detailed attractiveness profile and personalized style recommendations, completely privately. Many users actually prefer this option and find the results just as useful.
How can I find out how attractive I am to a specific gender? +
When you start your analysis, you can select your target audience (male, female, or general). Our AI adjusts the analysis weighting to reflect what each group tends to find most attractive based on research data. This gives you a more tailored and relevant score based on your specific situation.
Is this tool free to use? +
Yes – the core attractiveness score, face shape analysis, and basic style tips are 100% free with no account required. A Pro version is available for users who want deeper feature breakdowns, historical score tracking, comparison reports, and advanced personalized styling recommendations – all optional.
What kind of photo gives the most accurate result? +
A front-facing selfie in natural light works best – no sunglasses, no heavy filters, and your face filling most of the frame. A simple background helps the AI focus on your features. Avoid Instagram beauty filters before uploading, as they alter the facial proportions the tool measures.
Why did I get a different score with two different photos? +
That’s completely normal – and actually useful. Lighting, camera angle, and facial expression all affect the result. A score difference between two photos tells you which one presents you more favorably. Many users test several photos specifically to find their best shot for dating apps or social media profiles.
Does wearing makeup change my score? +
Yes, it can. Makeup affects the appearance of symmetry, skin clarity, and eyebrow shape – all factors the AI evaluates. Some users upload two photos, with and without makeup, to compare. Neither result is more “true” than the other – a makeup score shows your presented look, while a no-makeup score reflects your natural features.
Does having a beard affect a man’s score? +
Yes. Facial hair changes the visible shape of the jaw and chin, both of which factor into the analysis. Research shows that medium stubble tends to enhance perceived masculine attractiveness for many face shapes, but results vary. Try testing photos with and without a beard to see what works best for your specific features.
Can I use my score to choose the best photo for a dating app? +
Absolutely – this is one of the most popular uses of the tool. Upload several candidate photos and go with the highest-scoring ones for Tinder, Bumble, or Hinge. A higher score generally means the photo shows your face with better light, angle, and natural expression – exactly what makes a strong first impression.
What does my face shape result mean? +
The tool identifies your face shape – Oval, Round, Square, Heart, or Oblong – based on the proportions between your forehead, cheekbones, jaw, and chin. Each shape has different strengths and pairs well with specific hairstyles, beard styles, and eyewear. Oval is commonly considered the most versatile shape, but every shape has its own distinct appeal.
Does skin color or ethnicity affect the score? +
No. The tool evaluates structural features – symmetry, proportions, and facial geometry – that are not linked to skin tone or ethnic background. The attractiveness criteria used are based on cross-cultural research showing consistent preferences for symmetry and facial balance across different populations.
What does a score of 7 out of 10 actually mean? +
A 7 means above average. Most users score between 6.5 and 8. A score of 5 represents a true average, 8 and above is considered attractive, and 9+ is exceptional. The scale is calibrated so that very low scores (below 5.5) and very high scores (above 9) are genuinely rare – a 7 is a strong, favorable result.
How is this different from other attractiveness tests online? +
Most online attractiveness tests are either random quizzes or basic filters. Our tool runs a real facial geometry analysis – mapping key facial landmarks and comparing proportions against validated attractiveness research. The result includes a breakdown by feature (symmetry, face shape, skin health, gender features) so you understand exactly what contributes to your score, not just a number.
